Robert

Robert left NOTDEC Uganda on 20th March 2017.  He was formerly responsible for overseeing Education at NOTDEC, both in the on-site nursery, and in the external schools to which children later moved.

Robert managed NOTDEC Uganda's in-house nursery, with three separate classes. "Baby nursery" was a toddlers' group with toys, "middle nursery" rather more structured, and "upper nursery" firmly targeted on the entrance examinations for external primary schools.  Pass rates were extremely good.

After nursery, most NOTDEC Uganda children went on to the local state primary school — Kagando Primary, the best for miles around — and Robert  worked closely with that school over a number of years monitoring the children's progress there.

In line with Ugandan Government policy, however, NOTDEC Uganda began seeking to resettle children back with any wider family that can be found and was willing to have them. Through NOTDEC Uganda, NOTDEC UK continued to pay the school fees of children resettled in this way.  For Robert, this meant dealing with many more schools covering the areas where the children's families live, and visiting those schools to check on each child's progress.  In a few cases, he's even had to check that the child was being sent to school — not used as cheap labour!  As more children were resettled, the demands on Robert gradually rose.
