Mark Peers

Mark Peers is a NOTDEC UK Trustee.  With his wife, Esther, he has sponsored Benjamin since 2006.

Exceptional amongst Trustees in not being an empty-nester, Mark has three children living at home with him.  Though he has no particular functional responsibility, he has a very distinct role.  This is to make sure that what NOTDEC UK says and does makes sense — and will continue to make sense — to busy people "out there", particularly people younger than most NOTDEC UK Trustees.

Mark has worked for 20 years in industrial distribution — most recently roaming Europe leading the implementation of an industrial vending machine programme.  In this somewhat “blokish” context, he enjoys networking, asking lots of questions to find out how things work, and then simplifying processes to deliver 'added value' to customers.  At Church, Mark leads “Men’s Stuff” – particularly communicating with Christian men who might otherwise say little and do even less.

As a caring organization, NOTDEC UK has enjoyed the active leadership of women.  And, during the construction phase, there were also clear roles for men with expertise in design, building and project management.  With building work now mainly complete, we don’t want men to withdraw — leaving cuddling to the ladies.  We hope Mark will help us communicate with men about why NOTDEC UK needs them to care too, how they can go about it, and what their distinctive contribution might be.

As gender roles change rapidly in society generally, this won’t be easy or straightforward.  But, with a role model whose forte is communicating with men, NOTDEC UK is well placed to rise to the challenge.
