Carlee Leftley

Carlee Leftley

In 2007 Carlee and her husband John helped set up NOTDEC UK as the charitable vehicle for child sponsorship. Carlee then served as a Trustee of NOTDEC UK until 2015 and continues to act as a stalwart supporter and volunteer.

She has visited NOTDEC Uganda umpteen times — sometimes for quite long periods.  When the first four houses were being built, she helped first plant hedges around the site and later trees along the paths.  Since then, she has taken particular interest in the health and well-being of the babies and very youngest children — not surprisingly since she was a State Registered Nurse — plus the Sunday school, and the nursery. When at NOTDEC Uganda, Carlee also helps Milly and the team with many aspects of administration.

Back in the UK, one of Carlee's recurrent tasks has been packing the boxes of sponsors' Christmas presents, together with other gifts and necessities to be taken out in January by Janet and Anthony Johnston et. al.  Packing up to 300 kg of assorted goods into boxes ideally each weighing virtually the maximum the airline permits is quite a logistical challenge!  Sadly, British Airways cut its once very generous charity baggage allowance and then withdrew its direct flights to Uganda. So, in future, the total load will have to be lighter.  But packing it into boxes won't be any easier.
